We are an Authorized U.S. Dinosaural pedals dealer, and $399 is your absolute final/total here year-round, for this brand new Dinosaural Cogmeister pedal (with box, etc.). A 3-in-1 overdrive, fuzz, boost, handmade in the UK!

The Dinosaural Cogmeister pedal started as a crowdfunding project, with long time UK guitar pedal guru Dan Coggins of Coggins Audio, and former co-founder of Lovetone effect pedals. Demand quickly grew, and with the help of ThorpyFX, Cogmeister is now produced in commercial production facilities.

Cogmeister has received praise from professional and enthusiast guitarists for its old-school sound, described as "sublime" by That Pedal Show. Since its introduction, it has gained popularity among musicians like Chris Turpin (Ida Mae, Kill It Kid) and Paul Stacey (Oasis, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, the Black Crowes), who praise its versatility and ability to evoke classic rock tones.

Go to 27 minutes into this episode of That Pedal Show, for the Dinosaural Cogmeister demo.

Dinosaural  Cogmeister is a single guitar booster/overdrive/distortion/fuzz pedal, containing a trio of compatible sections arranged in fixed series pattern. These comprise the Push, Drive, and Solo sections, each featuring its own true/hard-wire bypass stompswitch and corresponding LED.

The Cogmeister pedal is a trio of compatible booster effects, which are arranged in a fixed series chain, with true/hard-wire bypass mechanical foot switches. The central red LED is designed to dim noticeably, relative to the other two LEDs, whenever the battery gets too low and/or supply voltage drops.

Dinosaural Cogmeister controls are configured as follows: all the gain and/or level controls are found along the top row, while the timbre and/or tone controls are situated along the bottom row. The 3 effects are marked by the two vertical white lines, and each effect has its own bypass switch.

The ‘Solo’ section of Cogmeister is at the output end of the signal chain, and this may be used to give a moderate, clean ‘flat’ signal boost, or a progressively higher gain, but narrower bandwidth midrange boost, with increasing distortion as the PEAK control is advanced clockwise. This can be for lifting solos level, and/or generally increasing intensity and focus. The LEV control affects the output volume of the solo section, and the whole pedal when the green LED is on. This is worth knowing when things get loud!

Dinosaural Cogmeister's ‘Drive’ section in the center is an overdrive/booster, with a modified EQ curve and greater tonal options, plus an extra gain stage for more harmonics, especially when the VOL control is turned up high. The 3-position SHIFT switch modifies the low frequency range of the adjacent TONE (low-high frequency balance) control, giving 3 distinct resulting midrange contours to suit a variety of amp and loudspeaker configurations, as well as evoking various classic amp timbres in and of itself. The SUS control determines the input gain range of this section and increases the harmonics and speeds up the rise time of the distortion when turned clockwise. A relatively clean ‘warm’ boost may be obtained with SUS turned down.

The ‘Push’ section is a late 1960’s style, single-transistor treble (or more accurately, upper- midrange) booster, with an adjustable GAIN boost control, and adjustable bandwidth on the LOW control, which when set anticlockwise only boosts the upper partials (harmonics), and when turned clockwise introduces back the fundamentals (low frequencies), which also results in a ‘feral’, crunchy distortion with the GAIN turned up. This can drive subsequent stages into a ‘pushed’ overdrive distortion/fuzz effect or drive an amplifier input harder for more intense energy and sustain: especially useful for when recording ‘heavy’ guitar.

Dinosaural Cogmeister has an enormous gain range of the combined three sections, which essentially constitute an early-70’s style fuzz-box, with far greater versatility. The all-discrete, Class-A, silicon transistor circuitry gives an authentic, vintage sound, and each section has its own unique distortion characteristics.

Fresh, exciting, energizing insights on Romans
I was delightfully surprised by the fresh insights of deep significance that Gaventa uncovers in the book of Romans, of all things--that book about which so, so much has already been written. She helps the reader approach the letter's themes as if one were reading it for the first time with 1st-century lenses, and in the process expands and reorients the reader's understanding of salvation, and the question of why Paul is even writing in the first place. The 21st-century repercussions of what Gaventa presents here would take another volume, but she does at points connect some of these dots herself. One notable reason why Gaventa's reading seems so fresh is that while it touches on them very briefly, but doesn't dwell on so many of the recurrent topics in recent discussions on Paul, such as "faith/fulness of Christ" or "works of the law" or "righteousness/justice of God." She simply helps focus attention on what to keep in mind when reading Romans in order to understand what is happening in and through its complex arguments. And I couldn't put it down until I finished. Although I would otherwise say we need another Romans commentary like we need rocks in our shoes, it offers much promise that Gaventa's big commentary which she is producing might very well revolutionize our understanding of aspects of Romans, and perhaps even Paul in general. At the very least, if it expands on what she has already given us in this slim volume, it will absolutely reenergize our engagement with this part of the New Testament.

Not Your Typical Biblical Commentary
Format: Kindle
This is more like a sermon than a commentary as most people would expect commentaries to be. It examines the Book of Romans thematically, as the themes run throughout the book, illustrating the themes with popular culture and contextualized in contemporary church struggles. If you are expecting the chapter by chapter and verse by verse exegesis, you will not find it here. What you will find is helpful lens with which to understand the epistle.

Confusion can be a good thing.
Format: Kindle
Finally a scholarship who admits to being unable to fully understand Paul's reasoning. For years I've read portions that seem to be in conflict and indeed they are. A great survey of Romans.

Very Good - But Conclusion Derails
Format: Paperback
Gaventa wrote an intriguing introduction to the book of Romans. She begins by setting up what we can know about the setting, and likewise critiques some overreach in some other treatments. The chapters which traces significant themes of sin/salvation; righteousness; worship; community; and the Jewish problem throughout the book. The threads she knits together move past the simplistic, and are convincing. Where she loses me is in the conclusion. Her argument that "all" is necessarily universal as it stretches to salvation seems to ignore much of what Paul himself wrote in Romans. Yes, sin is universal. Salvation is universally available. But universal availability doesn't suggest universal application.
